First? Crickets......Good game last night. Rangers PP failure in the first 59:53 would have been the reason they lost. But.......anyway! Feel bad for Ward but he's a true pro for talking to the media right after the game.

Great blog Steve. Caps showed they were mentally tough and resilient in bouncing back from Triple-OT loss and expect nothing but a top notch effort from them tomorrow

Great write up. We got the lead and had plenty of chances to pull away by two or even three goals and we didn't take advantage of them. Rangers deserved the win and they got it. That #1 line dominated us every single shift and gotta give credit to Gaborik who seems to be scrutinized alot for his play in the playoffs but has played fantastic the majority of this series.

Thanks Jan, same to you. It's been nothing short of surprise after surprise so far. Both sides have responded to adversity so many times I am curious to see if the Caps can climb that mountain once again.

Honestly, they've been nothing short of impressive to me and though last nights loss was an epic letdown, there appears to be so much more resolve in their game that i expect New York will have to play nothing short of their best road game of the year to close out the series.

That said, Caps fans can't help but hope their team is capable of the same kind of desperation the Rangers showed last night. That was some kind of desire on behalf of Callahan and Richards to get that puck through in those final seconds...

I think the Capitals are capable of taking the series back to MSG. The only variable now, which becomes bigger than all the others, is emotion.

We're no longer in the early stages of these playoffs. The pressure has become very palpable and I believe that, though discipline (which has defined this series) has been the key, emotions will decide Game Six.

No argument there. The Rags have gotten a great deal of solid play from their big guns, but so have the Caps. The difference between the results after four games and the results after five games is simply timing.

The Caps put themselves in the wrong position at the wrong time and the Rangers did all the right things to make them pay. It's just one mistake, but at this point everyone knows that's all it takes.

Fans should be proud of both teams. The Caps for maturing into a team everyone thought them incapable of being and the Rangers for staying true to the identity they've been crafting for a few years now.

It's been a great battle, the best of the second round, that's for sure...and it's likely to get even better as there is no way Washington is going down without a fight.

The hope is that fight goes all seven rounds.

This series is far from over but this is a bigger hill to climb than losing in triple OT in my opinion.

I don't know that the Rangers deserved to win (they dominated the 1st, part of the 2nd, but I thought the Caps carried play until the last minute of the 3rd) -- pretty much every game in the series has been a 50/50 proposition. The Caps should have been able to take advantage of one of the odd-man breaks they had late -- too much trying to force the puck to Ovechkin, would like to have seen Semin just let it rip and maybe he scores, maybe they get a rebound. Holtby also probably better served to lay out for the loose puck rather than trying to cover it with the glove on the game-tying goal, but what can you do ?

No doubt, the two OT losses are hard to get past. This Caps team has proved incredibly resilient so far, we'll see if they have anything left.

such a tough loss last night, i feel that ward deserves some of the blame for such a stupid penalty in the last minute of the game. but what can any of us do now? we need to keep moving forward and dont let this one loss end their season. they win tomorrow there right back in and have a chance at MSG to end it. Look forward and keep positive. GO CAPS

Sure, Ward deserves some blame -- you have to be more careful with the stick in that circumstance. The guy played a solid game to that point, though -- drew two penalties, I believe, one of which led to the go-ahead goal by Carlson if I remember correctly.

He also drew the penalty that led to Carlson's go-ahead goal. Not all his fault. Gotta feel for the guy with all the racist horsesh!t flying his way on Twitter.

yeah you can feel bad but it was his own fault, and it cost the team. Time to forget and move on

I'm not absolving him of any responsibility, just saying it's not only his fault that you guys lost. Other guys had chances to score and didn't, it's a team game. I'll leave it at that because as sore as I am that you guys lost, I'm sure actual Caps fans are 100x worse.

I fully expect Caps to win Wednesday. Unlike years gone by, this team has already showed they tend to bounce back after a big disappointing loss (the third overtime loss, and the OT loss to Boston).

Most likely will be another close, 1 goal game. I'm predicting a 3-2 effort.

And then, the do-or-die game in enemy territory once more. These entire playoffs have been a rollercoaster, this series especially.

Not sure I can take much more of this.

Anyways, props to Wardo for not shying away from anything; and really, there were many other missed opportunities in the game, noone should simply point fingers at one individual (ie: Backstroms crossbar, Brooksies' non-pass on the short-handed 2 on 1)

Henrik is honestly the only reason Rags are up; how many certain goals has he managed to just barely deflect onto the crossbar or post or over the net. Guy has to be the best shot-stopper in the world at this point.

It's ironic that you can go in either the Rangers or Caps thread the day after a loss and see the same type of comments about resiliency, desperation, heart, etc. What amazes me is the transformation of your team from more of a skill-oriented offensive team into virtually a mirror image of the Rangers. The Caps are actually blocking more shots than the Rangers in this series. That doesn't happen often.

You know, I was so focused on the Backstrom breakaway and the 2 on 1 and 3 on 1 which failed as they tried to force the puck to Ovechkin that I forgot about Laich's opportunity. Hamrlik was WIDE open -- not sure if he is capable of finishing, but man I liked his chances at a semi-open net vs Laich shooting right at Lundqvist.

I think the difference is that the Rangers have in years past been viewed as coming up short in talent (not heart, etc) while the Caps have been viewed as underachievers who come up small in the big moment and haven't been willing to do the dirty work to win games. Regardless of how this one turns out, the Caps have shown a lot more that I believe most fans would have ever expected after the struggles they had this season. Not saying it won't be disappointing if they lose, though (the door to a Stanley Cup is seemingly wide-open, everyone left has a good shot).

Tough break, but honestly, I'm not worried. Last year, I'd be worried, and the year before and the year before. But listening to the postgame, especially Hunter, the guy exudes calmness. The boys just need to go play hockey, finish a few plays that they know they are going to get and they'll be alright. poop happens, just gotta push the enveloppe and have poop happen to the opposing team.

Tough one wardo, you'll make it up to us.

The caps were not very good at all on their odd man rushes. You don't usually get too many against the rangers so you have to be opportunistic.

Just completely typical for the Capitals. Stupid. They had so many odd-man chances to ice this game, and they didn't. So screw them, they didn't deserve to win it.

I almost cried after that play; not sure if Brooskie just didn't see him, or what, but I recall him opting to try and score on past 2-on-1 chances (think there was one against the Bees), when the pass was definitely the better option.

Oh well; looking forward to tomorrow's game!

i couldnt agree more with the statement above. Im no scared, not yet. Capitals need to come out with strong defense and agressive offense. They need to bury those 2 on 1, 3 on 1 chances. they execute on that and they can win the game. Backstrom rang the post late in the second period which could have made the
game 3-1 and would have gotten the W.
